Her Grandfather was President of The Bank of Carlisle, Carlisle, SC

Mrs. Otis Edna Tucker Vance (1905-1996) was born to George Anderson Tucker (1882-1932) and Daisy Blanch Chick Tucker (1883-1941) in Buffalo, Union, South Carolina. This is the first census she would have appeared on:

"United States Census, 1910," database with images, FamilySearch ( : 24 June 2017), South Carolina > Union > Bogansville > ED 109 > image 43 of 50; citing NARA microfilm publication T624 (Washington, D.C.: National Archives and Records Administration, n.d.).

Update: I have recently been in touch with Thomas Stokes, whose grandparents knew G. Epps. Tucker. I have changed Epps' birthdate because Thomas says that the gravestone says he was born in 1859.

I first asked about her grandfather, George Epps Tucker (1859-1927), and she told me that he used to visit her father and bring fruit to the family. He had been the former slaveholder’s grandson. I just also discovered him in a book entitled Report of State Officers, Board and Committee to the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina 1909. He was the president of The Bank of Carlisle in Carlisle, Union County, South Carolina.

The Bank of Carlisle was incorporated on April 20, 1903. Plan to look visit Carlisle because this is also where grandfather, Emory Wallace Vance, Sr was born. In 1900, Rev. Lafayette Franklin Vance lost his first wife, Nunia Johnson Vance, and he would later marry Lula Johnson Vance who would become Emory’s mother. I will look for Nunia’s grave in Carlisle. In 1930, Emory would travel from Columbia, SC to Union County to marry my grandmother. Otis’ father had told her of a nice young man.

George Epps Tucker was a huge influence upon my family. Stay tuned for more findings.
